Scoil Etchen Naofa is part of the Health Promoting Schools initiative. We have always worked towards promoting healthy lifestyles among our pupils and encouraged them to make safe choices. Though our involvement in this intiative we hope that the school can make an even more substantial contribution to the health and well-being of the whole school community, as we continue to work towards better health for all who learn and work within our school setting.

Thanks to all the classes who completed the HPS surveys.  The teachers and pupils from the HPS team identified 3 key areas which will form the basis for our HPS Action Plan.

  1. Physical Activity:  We are asking all classes to adopt a D.E.A.R. approach, drop everything and run! On the teacher's signal the class stop what they are doing and do a 5 minute run, at least once a week, in preparation for the School Sponsored Walk in May.
  2. The School Garden:  All classes will be planting some fruit and vegetables in the school garden and these will be ready for tasting before the holidays!!
  3. Anti-bullying: The existing anti-bullying policy is currently being reviewed and we hope to be in a position to implement the new anti-bullying policy in the next school year.
The children from the two 5th classes who volunteered to be on the team will be keeping track of what is happening in the school and documenting all activities for the HPS Portfolio.

How much sugar is in our food and drinks?

Many thanks to Ms. Bracken for this visual and informative display of the amount of sugar in our food and drinks. Sugar, as we know, is not only very damaging to our teeth, but is also a major contributory factor in the rising numbers of obese (overweight) children and adults.
